About AidNet

AidNet is a free, Canada-wide community service created to help people connect during natural disasters and other emergencies.

The idea is simple: when people need practical assistance, there are often other people, businesses, charities, and organizations willing and able to help. AidNet provides a straightforward way for them to find each other.

A Simple Approach

AidNet is deliberately designed to remain simple.

It does not collect financial donations, conduct fundraising, process payments, assign assistance, or coordinate relief efforts. People requesting and providing aid communicate directly and make their own arrangements.

AidNet is based on the principle that community technology should serve a clear purpose without creating unnecessary complexity or collecting information for unrelated purposes.

The service is designed around a few basic commitments: keep personal information to a minimum, do not sell user information, do not track people for advertising, do not display third-party advertising, and keep the service free to use.

AidNet is designed for communities across Canada. It is intended to provide a common place where practical assistance can be requested and offered when natural disasters or other emergencies affect individuals, families, and communities.

The service is not intended to replace emergency services, government agencies, established relief organizations, or local community groups. It provides another way for Canadians to help one another directly.

About the Founder

AidNet was conceived and developed by Amrit Dhillon, a Canadian technologist with more than four decades of experience in technology and infrastructure.

His current work focuses on engineering a framework for a new generation of social networks.

AidNet is provided free of charge. There are no membership fees, listing fees, commissions, or payment service fees.
