AidNet.ca Launches Free Community Aid Exchange for Canadians During Disasters and Emergencies
New Canada-wide public-service initiative connects people and organizations seeking practical assistance with those able to provide it.
BRITISH COLUMBIA, Canada — August 18, 2026 — A new Canadian public-service initiative, AidNet.ca, has been launched to provide a simple way for people and organizations seeking practical assistance during natural disasters and emergencies to connect with those able and willing to help.
AidNet is a free, Canada-wide community aid exchange. People and organizations can post either requests for assistance or offers of goods, resources and practical services. Others can search available listings by location, category, listing type and keywords and communicate directly to make their own arrangements.
The service is intended to help address a recurring challenge during emergencies: while many Canadians are willing to help affected communities, people who need assistance and those offering it do not always have a simple way to find one another.

AidNet can be used for practical assistance related to recovery and rebuilding, including temporary accommodation, food and household supplies, clothing and personal necessities, transportation, storage, equipment and tools, building and repair services, and other community resources.
The service does not accept financial donations, conduct fundraising or crowdfunding, process payments, charge commissions or offer paid listings.
AidNet also does not assign assistance, manage volunteers, coordinate deliveries, verify individual needs or operate emergency relief programs. Government agencies, emergency services, established charities and relief organizations continue to play their respective roles in emergency response and recovery. AidNet is intended to complement those efforts by providing an additional community-to-community connection.
AidNet is an initiative of the Safe Social Networking Society, a British Columbia-based nonprofit organization focused on developing online environments based on privacy, trust, transparency and simpler digital relationships.
In keeping with those principles, AidNet does not display third-party advertising, track people for advertising purposes, sell or share personal information, use engagement algorithms or maintain marketing mailing lists.
Amrit Dhillon, a Canadian technologist with more than four decades of experience in technology and infrastructure, conceived and developed AidNet as a public-service initiative rather than a commercial venture.
Although the service is launching at a time when wildfires are affecting communities in British Columbia, AidNet has been designed for use across Canada during wildfires, floods and other natural disasters and emergencies.
Participation in AidNet is free. Registered users can post aid requests and aid offers, while visitors can search listings to find assistance or resources relevant to their communities.
