Terms of Service

These Terms of Service govern your use of AidNet.ca and the services provided through AidNet. By registering for an account, submitting a listing, contacting another user, or otherwise using AidNet, you agree to these Terms.

Purpose of AidNet

AidNet is a free, Canada-wide community service that connects people affected by natural disasters and other emergencies with individuals, businesses, charities, and organizations that may be able to provide practical goods or services.

AidNet exists to connect people, not to coordinate relief efforts.

AidNet is not an emergency response service, relief agency, financial service, marketplace, or fundraising platform.

User Accounts

Users may be required to register and activate an account before using certain AidNet services.

You are responsible for providing accurate account information, protecting your account credentials, and for activity conducted through your account.

You must not create an account using another person's identity or use another person's account without permission.

Listings

Registered users may submit listings to request aid or provide aid.

You are responsible for the accuracy, legality, and appropriateness of information you publish through AidNet.

Listings must relate to the intended purpose of AidNet and comply with the AidNet Community Rules.

Users should update or remove listings when assistance is no longer needed or when offered goods or services are no longer available.

Goods and Services Only

AidNet is intended for practical goods and services.

AidNet does not accept, process, collect, distribute, or facilitate financial donations, fundraising, payments, loans, investments, or other financial transactions between users.

Users must not use AidNet listings to solicit money or direct users to crowdfunding, fundraising, or payment services.

Arrangements Between Users

AidNet provides a means for users to find and communicate with each other. Any arrangement resulting from that contact is made directly between the users involved.

AidNet is not a party to arrangements between users and does not assign assistance, coordinate volunteers, manage deliveries, supervise services, or control how assistance is provided or received.

Users are responsible for deciding whether to communicate, meet, exchange goods, provide services, accept assistance, or enter into any other arrangement with another user.

No Verification or Guarantee

AidNet does not routinely verify the identity, background, qualifications, credentials, needs, claims, listings, goods, or services of users.

The presence of a person, organization, or listing on AidNet does not constitute an endorsement, certification, recommendation, or guarantee by AidNet.

AidNet does not guarantee that requested assistance will be available, that offered assistance will be provided, or that any particular arrangement will be completed.

User Safety

Users are responsible for exercising reasonable care when communicating or making arrangements with others.

Please review the AidNet Safety guidance before making arrangements involving accommodation, transportation, property access, professional services, or other situations involving personal safety.

AidNet is not an emergency service. If there is an immediate threat to life, health, or safety, contact the appropriate emergency services or local authorities.

Prohibited Use

You must not use AidNet to:

Request or solicit money or financial donations.
Conduct fundraising or crowdfunding activities.
Promote illegal goods, services, or activities.
Post fraudulent, false, deceptive, abusive, or deliberately misleading information.
Harass, threaten, impersonate, or harm another person.
Distribute spam or unrelated commercial advertising.
Conduct political or religious campaigning.
Attempt to compromise the security or operation of AidNet.
Use information obtained through AidNet for unrelated marketing, solicitation, or other unauthorized purposes.

Content and Listings

You remain responsible for content that you submit to AidNet.

By submitting a listing or other content intended for publication, you authorize AidNet to display and process that content as reasonably necessary to operate the service.

AidNet may remove, restrict, or modify the visibility of listings or other content that violates these Terms, the Community Rules, applicable law, or that may reasonably present a risk to AidNet or its users.

Account Suspension or Removal

AidNet may suspend, restrict, or remove an account where there is reasonable concern about misuse, fraudulent activity, security, violation of these Terms, or conduct that may place other users or the service at risk.

Privacy

Use of AidNet is also subject to the AidNet Privacy Policy.

AidNet aims to collect and retain only the information reasonably necessary to operate the service and does not sell personal information or use it for advertising profiles.

Availability of the Service

AidNet is provided as a free community service. We do not guarantee that the website or any particular feature will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for every situation.

AidNet may change, suspend, or discontinue features where reasonably necessary for operational, security, legal, or service reasons.

Limitation of Responsibility

Users participate in AidNet and make arrangements with other users at their own discretion and responsibility.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, AidNet is not responsible for loss, damage, injury, disputes, failed arrangements, inaccurate listings, unavailable assistance, or the actions or omissions of users or third parties arising from connections made through the service.

Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or limit any rights or responsibilities that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

Changes to These Terms

These Terms may be updated as AidNet develops or as operational or legal requirements change. The current Terms of Service will be published on AidNet.ca.
